British Air Force Typhoon fighter aircraft have joined forces with French warplanes in a joint strike on an hidden munitions depot in Syrian territory operated by the IS group, as stated by the UK's MoD.
The site, pinpointed through surveillance, was thought to be storing arms and explosives, the statement said, and was situated in mountainous terrain just north of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"Our fighter planes used Paveway IV guided bombs to target a several approach shafts providing entry to the depot... preliminary assessments indicate the target was engaged successfully," officials stated.
There was no evidence of any civilian casualties in the operation on Saturday evening and each participating jet returned safely, the ministry further stated.
The Typhoon FGR4s were supported by a Voyager refuelling tanker.

"This operation shows British leadership, and determination to stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies, to eradicate any revival of the terrorist group and their violent and radical beliefs in the Middle East," the British Defence Secretary John Healey said.
RAF aircraft have performed patrols over Syria to "prevent any efforts to regroup" of the group subsequent to its military defeat at the Baghuz confrontation in 2019, the ministry said.
"I extend gratitude to the personnel of the UK armed forces participating in this mission for their expertise and their valour," he added. "They were among a great many British troops deployed over the festive period. This mission, to eliminate militants who threaten our security, highlights how British military are always on standby, throughout the year, protecting the UK within its borders and influential overseas."
In December, the United States armed forces executed what it termed a "large-scale strike" on IS targets in Syria, following an assault claimed the lives of two US servicemembers and a local interpreter in the Palmyra area.
The UN says Islamic State still maintains roughly 5-7 thousand militants in Iraq and Syria.
